Finding Collisions on a One-Way Street: Can Secure Hash Functions Be Based on General Assumptions?
نویسنده
چکیده
We prove the existence of an oracle relative to which there exist seveial well-known cryptographic primitives, including one-way permutations, but excluding (for a suitably strong definition) collision-intractible hash functions. Thus any proof that such functions can be derived from these weaker primitives is necessarily non-relativizing; in particular, no provable construction of a collision-intractable hash function can exist based solely on a “black box” one-way permutation. This result can be viewed as a partial justification for the common practice of treating the collision-intractable hash function as a cryptographic primitive, rather than attempting to derive it from a weaker primitive (such as a one-way permutation).

A NEW SECRET SHARING SCHEME ADVERSARY FUZZY STRUCTURE BASED ON AUTOMATA
In this paper,we introduce a new verifiable multi-use multi-secretsharing scheme based on automata and one-way hash function. The scheme has theadversary fuzzy structure and satisfy the following properties:1) The dealer can change the participants and the adversary fuzzy structure without refreshing any participants' real-shadow. 2) The scheme is based on the inversion of weakly invertible fin...
متن کاملProvably Secure One-Way Hash Functions
This paper surveys recent progress on the construction of provably secure one-way hash functions, under gradually weakened assumptions. One-way hash functions have many cryptographic applications. In digital signatures, they are used to compress long input strings prior to actual signing procedures. This usually greatly improves the overall efficiency of a signature scheme. They are also used t...
متن کاملHash Functions Based on Block Ciphers and Quaternary Codes
We consider constructions for cryptographic hash functions based onm-bit block ciphers. First we present a new attack on the LOKIDBH mode: the attack finds collisions in 2 encryptions, which should be compared to 2 encryptions for a brute force attack. This attack breaks the last remaining subclass in a wide class of efficient hash functions which have been proposed in the literature. We then a...
متن کاملDo Broken Hash Functions Affect the Security of Time-Stamping Schemes?
We study the influence of collision-finding attacks on the security of time-stamping schemes. We distinguish between client-side hash functions used to shorten the documents before sending them to time-stamping servers and server-side hash functions used for establishing one way causal relations between time stamps. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for client side hash functions an...
متن کاملPractical forward secure signatures using minimal security assumptions
Digital signatures are one of the most important cryptographic primitives in practice. They are an enabling technology for eCommerce and eGovernment applications and they are used to distribute software updates over the Internet in a secure way. In this work we introduce two new digital signature schemes: XMSS and its extension XMSS . We present security proofs for both schemes in the standard ...
